For the Aston Martin Vantage GT4, the 12h Spa on Friday and Saturday (19/20 April) means the second endurance race. At the season opener of the European 24h Series in Mugello, PROsport Performance had given the brand-new Vantage GT4 the first podium finish by finishing second in the GT4 class. “The drivers and the team proved their competitiveness and reliability at the first race,” says Nico Verdonck. The GT expert from Belgium, for many years as driver and coach in service of PROsport Performance, also on his home track will be at the wheel of the Vantage GT4 with the starting number one, which belongs to the 2018 team champion. Nico Verdonck will be joined by his compatriot Rodrigue Gillion, Indian Akhil Rabindra and English new entrant Michael Munemann.
“Spa is my home track and definitely one of my favorite tracks, because every lap it’s a challenge to really master the corners like Eau Rouge, Blanchimont, etc.,” says Nico Verdonck, who loves the nature around the seven kilometers long roller coaster in the Ardennes. “It’s great weather forecast, and I’m hoping for a lot of spectators to follow our #1 on this mythical track.” The 33-year-old knows the Formula One track like the back of his hand. “If you respect the track, then the track also respects you,” he says as a key factor and adds: “As always in the 24h Series, traffic management is crucial as well as consistently fast laps.”
Verdonck, Gillion, Rabindra and Munemann can look forward to a lot of track time on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday morning they will have a free practice session and qualifying, followed by the first part of the race over 3:50 hours at 14:05. The second part over 7:50 hours starts at 10:05 on Saturday.
