An impressive grid of 37 GT4 sports cars from 11 car manufacturers awaits PROpeak Performance at the season opener of the GT4 European Series from 11 to 14 April as part of the Blancpain GT Series in Monza, Italy. Two brand new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 are used by the team from Wiesemscheid at the Nürburgring and face strong competition from their own camp at the 5.793-kilometer Formula 1 circuit, with no fewer than seven Aston Martin on the grid. While the Vantage GT4 debuts in this since 2006 hosted European Championship, are for the team of Christoph Esser already three titles to book, winning the driver title in 2013 and 2016 respectively with Jörg Viebahn (Gummersbach) and in addition the team title 2016.
Four young talents, all of whom are being promoted at the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy, are piloting the two beautiful Aston Martin Vantage GT4s from PROpeak Performance. The 23-year-old Swiss Florian Thoma and the one-year younger Indian Akhil Rabindra steer the orange-black # 14 Vantage, the only 19-year-old Frenchman Jérémy Sarhy and 24-year-old Austrian David Griessner the white-black # 15 Vantage. Both PROpeak duos enjoy plenty of driving time on four days to catch the fast track and their new sports equipment. On Thursday alone, there will be four test sessions, each lasting 50 minutes, followed by two one-hour free practice sessions on Friday. After qualifying on Saturday morning, the first one-hour change – with driver change to the middle of the race – will start at 15:10, the second race on Sunday at 12:05.
Christoph Esser, Team Principal: “Our four young pilots are just as excited as we are as a team for our premiere with the new Vantage. The GT4 European Series is a top-class championship that we know well and have already won. But we still have test kilometers so we will not know where we are until Sunday.”
Florian Thomas (#14): “I’m really looking forward to the first race, the track and especially the competition. We have a lot of travel time, and we have to use that to prepare ourselves optimally.”
Akhil Rabindra (#14): “Monza is a very fast track, I like that. Our Vantage GT4 is great and I can not wait for it to start.”
Jérémy Sarhy (#15): “I prepared myself for this legendary track in the simulator and I feel fit physically and mentally. So I’m all the more looking forward to starting with David (Griessner).”
David Griessner: (#15): “I’m well prepared, also in the simulator, I feel very comfortable in the car, and my new team is doing a great job. Our tests were good, but races are different, of course.”
